CeDiPa is an inter-university research and technology transfer centre for the digitisation of cultural and environmental heritage.
History
CeDiPa was founded on 23 January 2023 on the initiative of the University of Perugia in collaboration with the University of L'Aquila, the Polytechnic University of Marche and the University of Teramo, thanks to funding from the 'National Recovery and Resilience Plan – Complementary Fund, Unified Intervention Programme for the areas affected by the earthquakes of 2009 and 2016, Measure B, Sub-measure B.4 Research Centres for Innovation'. The Research Centre is based in Spoleto, in one of the most fragile and vulnerable areas of central Italy from a seismic point of view. The 2016-2017 earthquake in central Italy was only the latest in a long series of catastrophic earthquakes that have struck this area throughout history, with serious consequences for the Spoleto area and Valnerina, its natural geographical extension that winds its way into the heart of the Apennines. That event caused material damage and perhaps even deeper lacerations in the economic and social fabric: the flight of many residents – despite the well-known resilience of these populations – and the destruction of cultural heritage, devastated and now fragmented in order to meet restoration needs.
